The Library Talks with Dorine van Meel
Dorine van Meel’s practice is situated within and between the media of moving image, writing and installation. Through the use of diaristic and intimate analyses of personal observations and conversations, mixed with reflections on twitter feeds, news items and music videos, the work attempts to expose current structures of power, whilst at the same time considering modes of resistance.
During her library talk, van Meel will read from some of the books that have been crucial to her practice and thinking. The texts range from autobiographical accounts to political manifestos, and often find their roots in feminist or anarchist discourses, queer theory, and decolonial thinking.
By looking at these writings, which include authors such as Jack Halberstam, Silvia Federici, Audre Lorde, Angela Davis, James Baldwin, and others, she will open up the question of how, as artists, we can negotiate our political positions within our practices.
